Constructing Sudan

Constructing Sudan is the central intellectual project that anchors CCSS’s work. It links the forthcoming book of the same name to a longer programme of research, dialogue, and policy framing.

The idea

Sudan’s current crisis is not merely an episode of political collapse; it marks a moment of historical rupture demanding a deep rethinking of the state, the social contract, and the very idea of national belonging. Constructing Sudan sets out to seed the strategic, ethical, and institutional frameworks for a new Sudanese Establishment — civilian in leadership, democratic in structure, just and inclusive in vision, and rooted in Sudanese realities.

Strands of work

  • The book — a long-form synthesis of CCSS’s strategic argument (forthcoming).
  • A reading and dialogue series convening Sudanese and international thinkers around its themes.
  • Companion policy briefs translating each chapter’s argument into practical entry points.
  • A repository of supporting essays, archival material, and partner contributions.

This page will grow as the project unfolds.
